The evaluation type “is not scientific notation” is hit when a student’s answer is not in scientific notation, meaning it is not in the form a*10^n where a in integer or a decimal number with 1≤|a|<10 and n is an integer. This evaluation type has automated feedback, which is shown in the image below. The feedback rule in the image is in the positive feedback.

The evaluation type “significant digits” can be used to give feedback on the number of significant digits that the student used in their answer. Note that this feedback only works if the student’s answer is an integer, a decimal number or if it is in scientific notation.
