Score-to-grade

Learn how to automatically calculate a grade based on the test score

Updated over a week ago

The "score-to-grade" feature gives teachers the option to let the system automatically calculate a grade based on the test score.

You can set it up in two different ways:

  • In test settings, while setting up a test

  • In test results, while grading

In test settings, while setting up a test

Under test Settings, in the Results section, enable "Transform the final test score into a grade".

In test results, while grading

Go to your test results.

In the upper right corner, click on "Grading settings".

Setting up score-to-grade

Decide on the minimum passing score in percentages:

The minimum passing score in percentages is used to indicate to the student whether they passed the test. There are no further consequences related to this setting.

Then, transform the final test score into a grade. You can choose from two options:

Linear transformation

Constant value

Linear transformation

Linear transformation entails making the same adjustment to every student's score, which helps make the grading fair or align the scores with a desired scale.

Rounding increment

Select the rounding increment that will be applied to the final grade after the linear transformation has taken place.

Choose between these options:

  • 1

  • 0.1

  • 0.5

  • 0.01

Rounding type

Round the final grade specifically up or down when the final grade is close to the passing score.

Choose between these options:

  • regular

  • down to a minimum passing grade

  • up to a minimum passing grade

Once applied, you will see the grades added in the results overview:

(In the case below we set the rounding increment to 1).

Let's say we also set the minimal passing score to 55% and look at what would happen to two students who scored 53% and 58% respectively:

With the rounding increment of 1:

Regular: The scores would be a 5 and a 6.
Down to a minimum passing grade: The scores would be a 5 and a 6.
Up to a minimum passing grade: The scores would be a 6 and a 6.

With the rounding increment of .5:

Regular: The scores would be a 5.5 and a 6.0.

Down to a minimum passing grade: The scores would be a 5.0 and a 5.5.

Up to a minimum passing grade: The scores would be a 5.5 and a 6.0.

Constant values

Decide on a grade and assign it to the score percentages. The grade could be a letter (A-F) or a number (1-10, 1-5, or other), or simply pass/fail. For example:

Save it and the grades will be recalculated and show on the results overview page:

How will the students see the grade?

Depending on the settings (release all) students will see their grade in the bottom right corner of their results:
