How to disable an access code?

Learn how you can close your class so that no new students can access it

Updated over a week ago

There are two cases when you might want to stop new students from joining your class:

In a class that is still actively used

If you know that all your students have joined the class, and you want to avoid new students joining accidentally, you can simply remove the access code, and it won't work anymore.

Go to the class Settings, and scroll down to the Access code. Then click on Remove.

Please keep in mind that you won't be able to undo this.

Once the access code has been removed, the students who try to use it will get this message:

After the removal of the access code, you will still be able to manually add students to the class, if they already have an account.

It's also possible to generate a new access code if you decide to open the class again. To do that, go to Settings, Access code and click on "New code".

In an old class that has no active users

If you aren't going to be using your class anymore, you can set an end date for it, which will stop new students from joining. Go to the class Settings, Start and end date and set up an end date.

There is an additional checkbox you can select: "Also limit students' access to the course after the end date". If you enable this, your students won't be able to access the course material after the selected date.

This is what the students will see on the home page if you don't enable the additional checkbox:

This is what students will see on the home page if you do enable the additional checkbox:

When students try to use the access code, they will get this message:

Please keep in mind that this setting will influence the users that already joined the class before the end date. Their progress on the platform will only be counted up until the set end date. And if you also enabled "Also limit students' access to the course after the end date", they won't be able to access the course material either.
