Gamification/Achievements

Learn how gamification works and how to enable/disable it.

Updated over 3 years ago

Gamification is a great way to not only engage more students in their learning, but also improve the outcomes.

Turning on achievements

To enable or disable achievements in a class, click on the SETTINGS tab in the 'TEACHER' environment.

Go to the tab labeled 'Settings'.

In that tab, open up a section for Achievements, here you can enable/disable achievements.

Using gamification

Our gamification comes in the form of accomplishment badges and experience points (XP). Users can see the XP and badges they earned by clicking on the 'trophy' icon on the right side of the black bar at the top of their screen, next to their profile.

Badges can be earned for important three different types of tasks. Examples are:

  1. Learning tasks. For example: Solve 20 questions with one mistake or less, or Solve 5 questions in under 150 seconds.

  2. Peer-to-peer learning tasks. For example: Answer 5 questions on the forum, or Get 1 of your answers marked on the forum.

  3. Informal tasks. For example: Log in on Pi Day, or Solve questions on seven different days.

Some of these are hidden, and can only be seen once unlocked. Each achievement badge has three levels: bronze, silver, and gold.
