Every class in the learning environment has a forum. The forum is enabled by default, but you can also turn it off or enable a closed forum.
How to enable/disable the forum
Go to the "Settings", "Overview":
Under "Forum" choose between the three options:
Disable forum- the forum will be turned off completely.
Enable closed forum- students only see their own questions. Teacher sees all questions.
Enable open forum- everybody in the class can see all questions. This mode encourages peer-to-peer learning. Also, students will have an option to post anonymously.
It's additionally possible to enable the AI Solution Bot. Learn more about it here.
The forum environment
Go to the "Forum" tab, and you will see a list of all the questions asked in your class, and who posted them, for example:
There are four buttons at the top of the page:
Filter- You can filter forum activity by class, chapter, subchapter, package, status, user and type.
Last active- This shows the most recent activity on the forum.
New question- Ask a new question on the forum. These are general, and are not linked to content.
Email preference- Choose how you want to be notified of forum activity. See here for more information.
The tags will help you find the location of the content: language, class, chapter, subchapter, theory/exercise package.
The red or green number next to the forum post tell you if the question has been correctly answered:
Using the trashcan icon, students can delete their own forum posts. Teachers can delete any forum post.
Viewing and answering a question
Click on a question to see the full question. This will also show the exact exercise the question is about, what attempts the students have made to solve the question, what feedback the student received, and what the solution to the question was.
At the bottom of the page is an input field where you can write an answer to the forum post. If you have selected an open forum, other students can answer the question in the same way as well.
To write mathematical formulas, click on 'how do I write formulas' on the bottom right of the input field. You can write formulas using LaTeX and TeX, or Asciimathml.
If a correct answer has been given, you can click the checkmark icon. Both the teacher, and the student who asked the original question can do so. This will turn the box to the left of the question in the overview green.
Users can use the thumbs up and thumbs down buttons to vote on a question or answer. This determines their location in the list; questions and answers with more 'thumbs up' will appear higher in the list.
Reporting a problem with a question
Sometimes the forum brings to light a problem with the question at hand. As a teacher, you can report this directly to us, and we will resolve the issue at hand swiftly. Just click on the "Report problem" button.
