Benefits of organising your students in groups

Especially in large groups, it can be useful to divide your students into groups.

  • Teachers can assign Teaching assistants to smaller groups

Assign Teaching assistants to smaller groups, and filter the Report environment only on these smaller groups: go to the Report tab, and in the upper right, click on the class name. Choose the group in the drop-down, and the student results will filter accordingly.

  • Assign a Test to a group of students

To make a test only for one student/a group of students, first make the test unavailable.

To do this, go to the test settings.

Under "Settings"-Scheduling, choose "Unavailable". Don't forget to click "Save" at the bottom of the page.

Go back to the Tests overview and you will see that your test is now set to unavailable. Click on the second icon under "Actions":

In the Test settings per student, set the test to "Available", then scroll down and you will see a list of all your students at the bottom of the page. Type in the name of the group to filter to only the students that belong to that group.

  • Give Test exceptions to a group of students

Similar to the previous example, you can choose test exceptions for a group of students. Exceptions can be made regarding the availability of the test, number of attempts, duration of the test, result settings, Text-to-Speech, and IP range restrictions.

  • Assign an Assignment to a group of students

When creating an assignment, you can choose to give it only to a group of students.

How to create a new group

In the Teacher environment, click on the Groups tab.

At the top is an input field where you can type a name for your new group. Click on the '+ Group' button to create your new group.

Your new group will now show up in the list below the input field. You now have a few options.

  • Add or remove students from your group.  

  • Rename your group 

  • Remove your group 

Add or remove students from your group

Click on the users icon or on the name of the group. 

You will see two columns.

The column on the right shows all the students in your class. The column on the left shows the students currently in this group. Locate the students you want to add by going through the list or by using the search bar. Click on the name or the '+' icon to add the student to the group. The student will now show up in the left column.

Click on the 'trash' icon in the left column to remove a student from the group.

Will students know which group they belong to?

Students can see if they belong to any groups if they go to their account settings
